A Note from Chief Thompson

Citizens Academy
Middleton Citizens Academy participants engage with officers and learn about policing firsthand.

February was a meaningful month for our department, highlighted by our Police Be My Valentine visits with seniors and preparations for our upcoming Citizens Academy. These moments reflect what policing in Middleton is all about—building relationships, strengthening trust, and serving our community with professionalism and care.

Crime Trends and Technology

The Middleton Police Department relies on technology to assist in investigations and help prevent crime. A key component of this strategy is our Flock camera system, which provides valuable investigative leads and improves situational awareness.

The department conducts routine audits to ensure the system is used responsibly, ethically, and with integrity. We remain committed to protecting privacy while safeguarding our community.

Significant Case Highlight

School Resource Officers
Middleton Police Department School Resource Officers work daily to maintain safe learning environments and strong relationships with students and staff.

On February 18, Middleton High School staff and School Resource Officers responded to a report involving a student carrying a weapon. Officers recovered a CO₂-powered BB gun designed to resemble a real firearm. The student was safely taken into custody and referred to juvenile authorities.

Incidents involving weapons or facsimile firearms cause significant fear and disruption. Thanks to the quick response and professionalism of our SROs, the situation was resolved safely and without injury.

Looking Ahead

Community engagement event
Officers regularly participate in career fairs, academies, and community events throughout Middleton.
  • Citizens Academy begins March 24
  • Career fairs at UW-Platteville and Fox Valley
  • Police Department internship applications open through March

Safety Tip of the Month

As winter transitions to spring, changing conditions can create new safety risks. Melting snowbanks and increased pedestrian activity can limit visibility.

  • Slow down near intersections and crosswalks
  • Watch for pedestrians and cyclists
  • Allow extra stopping distance
  • Avoid distractions while driving
