Incident: Felony OWI Arrest – 4th Offense 
Date: June 10, 2025

On Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at 2:50 am, a Middleton Police officer was driving in the 6400 block of University Avenue and observed a vehicle fail to maintain its designated travel lane. A traffic stop was initiated, and contact was made with the driver of the vehicle who the officer identified as Darrell Ternes, 42 years old from Cross Plains.

The officer noticed an odor of intoxicants coming from Ternes and Ternes admitted to drinking prior to driving.  The officer conducted a records check and found that Ternes had 3 prior OWI convictions and his driver’s license was currently revoked.

After conducting field sobriety testing, Ternes was arrested for 4th offense Operating While Intoxicated (OWI).  Ternes was booked into Dane County Jail for tentative 4th offense OWI charge.  Ternes was also issued traffic citations for his driving behavior and his driver’s license status.
