Reminder:  City of Middleton Seeks Input for New Active Transportation Plan to Help Shape a More Pedestrian and Bicycle-Friendly Community

The City of Middleton officials continue to welcome input from residents and those who work in the community to help guide the development of the City’s first-ever Active Transportation Plan. The ATP aims to make the community more accessible and welcoming for pedestrians, cyclists, and users of small "micromobility" devices, such as scooters, along city streets, paths, and sidewalks. Over 300 people have taken the time to respond to the online survey, and there’s still time left to share your perspectives!

The ATP will replace Middleton's 2009 Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan and will address actions from the 2023 Comprehensive Plan, focusing on:

• Enhancing health and quality of life through active transportation solutions. 
• Reducing long gaps between marked crosswalks to encourage safer pedestrian crossings.
• Establishing uniform crosswalk design standards citywide. 
• Expanding and linking bicycle lanes and paths for all cyclists, including protected infrastructure.
• Integrating personal electric vehicles and other micro-mobility devices into city transportation systems.
• Prioritizing maintenance of pedestrian and bicycling facilities. 

The ATP builds on the city’s Complete Streets policy adopted in 2022 and new zoning ordinance standards that went into effect on March 1, 2024, including enhanced pedestrian access and bicycle parking requirements.

The survey is available online https://middleton-active-transportation-plan-outreach-middleton.hub.arcgis.com/ and will remain open until Sunday, October 6.  Paper copies are available at City Hall (7426 Hubbard Ave.), the Middleton Senior Center (7448 Hubbard Ave.), and the Middleton Public Library (7425 Hubbard Ave.).
