Starbucks Community Art Initiative Proposal

Attention Dane County residents! The Middleton Public Arts Committee, in conjunction with Starbucks, is soliciting graphic designs for artistic enhancements to windows at the Starbucks at 2620 Allen Boulevard in Middleton. Amateur artists, school students of all ages, professional artists, computer geeks, Middleton neighbors, trapeze artists, are all encouraged to enter a design!

The winning design(s) will be applied to the window(s) using a high performance vinyl that is expected to last without fading for at least 7 years.¹ One design will be chosen to span the entire window, including all window panels and pane breaks. You may create your art in any software (Paint, Publisher, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.). Photographs and hand-drawn submittals will also be accepted. The submittal must be in a .jpg format and a minimum of 300 dpi resolution. Physical submissions should be limited to a size of 18" height-wise by 13.5" length-wise. Please keep in mind that we are looking for art and not signage.

This project is open to anyone residing in Dane County, Wisconsin. In addition to your submissions, please provide your mailing address and phone number you can be reached at. You may submit up to three proposals by May 12th!

Selection Process
Phase One: Selection of Finalists
Committee Review
The Public Arts Committee will review submissions without information pertaining to the artist’s name or artistic background. The Public Arts Committee will select 3-8 finalists from the proposals based on the following:
  • Design excellence, including originality of concept, site appropriateness.
  • The artist’s response to the physical, social, and functional nature of the site and the relationship of the design to the site
Phase Two: Selection of Artist/Artwork
Starbucks will consider the 3-8 finalist designs and make a final selection. Starbucks will work with the fabricator to have the piece(s) printed and applied to the windows.

The selected artist(s) will receive a prize of $1,500 per winner, provided by Alliance Development. Please note that we reserve the right to not select any of the proposals received.
¹Our concept is for high-performance vinyl, but we are open to other design concepts.
